Message I wanted to install a fuel gauge in the engine bay and another electronic one in the cabin. I selected an 52mm Autometer electronic gauge for the inside, and a generic 1.5” wet gauge for the engine bay.

A combination of a one (1) square cross fitting, two (2) 45’ angle fittings, and two (2) barb fittings were used to assemble the engine bay gauge, and the sender unit for the interior gauge.

This is what it looks like from the rear. Because the hood sets so, there are constraints on how high the unit can be mounted in the engine bay. The barb fittings were angled upwards to allow it to set lower and avoid contact with the hood braces and/or hood insulated panel.

The former location of the hood alarm pin was used as a mounting point. There is sufficient depth here next to the shock tower allowing the relatively tall assembly to fit without obstructions.

A bracket was fabricated out of general hardware pieces.

Here is a view of the bracket attached to the gauge and sender assembly. Note the rubber tape around the gauge threads. This keeps the bracket tight, and the gauge in place.

Before securing any fasteners, I wanted to check the height of the gauge face to insure it would not contact the inside of the hood, or its framework. A small piece of clay bar was affixed to the top of the gauge and the hood carefully closed.

You can see there is about a half inch of clearance between the inside of the hood and the of the gauge face. I would prefer a little more, but everything else in a Z32 is tight so I guess this just fits the pattern.

Here is another perspective of the final fit viewed from the front of the engine bay.

I haven’t mounted the interior gauge yet. I have an empty spot on the three-gauge console panel; but I was thinking about mounting on the A-pillar below my boost gauge. Mounted that way, it would be easy to watch the two move in unison.
